DP World provides quality marine terminal services designed to enhance customers' supply chain efficiency. It does so by effectively managing container, bulk and other terminal cargo. It also provides logistics, infrastructure development and consultancy services where its experience adds significant value for customers.

In taking this customer-centric approach, DP World is building on the established relationships and superior level of service demonstrated at its flagship operations in Dubai, Port Rashid and Jebel Ali. Jebel Ali has been voted "Best Seaport in the Middle East" for 12 consecutive years. DP World's international achievements were recognised in 2006, when Lloyd's List awarded it the prestigious Port Operator of the Year Award.
The Business Problem
While DP World’s business performance is strong and global outlook very positive, there is still an area of major concern - eliminating workplace accidents.
Accidents, especially fatalities, cause immeasurable loss to families, friends, workmates and the business.
For every employee, the safety of the company’s people is seen as a priority equal with all other key aspects of the business.
DP World is committed to providing a safe workplace and ensuring that our business activities are conducted in a manner that minimises any adverse environmental impact.
The solution
DP World has engaged GVM to create three DVDs, along with supporting material, designed to train the workforce in health and safety requirements. Two of these DVDs are high-level, taking an overview of the risks and hearing the stories about fatalities and near misses
These DVDs are shown at ‘toolbox’ talks, when feedback and discussion are encouraged.
Because the company spans the world, GVM provided the DVD in many different languages, working hard to ensure consistency of message across the vastly different worksites.
Next Steps
DP World has now engaged GVM to develop a further series of DVDs, of which the first has been completed, addressing the health and safety issues at a more micro ‘how to’ level.
The benefit
DP World is committed to providing the safest work environment for all. To achieve this the company has set very clear safety targets. The aim is to eliminate fatalities from the workplace and over the next five years to reduce the injury rate by 80%.
These are challenging targets but in achieving them DP World will be recognised as industry leaders in safety management. With effort, cooperation and teamwork the company is certain these targets are achievable.
