Overview
IMB is one of Australia’s largest building societies. It was formed in 1880 as a mutual building society to provide housing finance and deposit account facilities for the growing population of the Illawarra region of NSW and has traded continuously since that time.
IMB currently has 38 branches located throughout the Illawarra, Sydney, NSW South Coast, NSW Southern Highlands, ACT and Melbourne.
IMB offers it’s customer full-service face-to-face and electronic banking facilities including home and personal lending, savings and transaction accounts, term deposits, business banking, financial planning and a wide range of insurance products.
IMB was named Building Society of the Year in 2005 and again in 2006 by the Money Magazine Consumer Finance Awards.
The Business Problem
IMB found that a lot of manual work required for staff to attend training. It was identified that there were:-
-
Seven steps to enrol a staff member onto either an internal or external training program PLUS
-
Seven steps involved in co-ordinating a training event and then maintaining accurate staff training records
Business needs
IMB wanted to:
-
Reduce costs of training and increase effectiveness and measurability
-
Streamline administration
-
Reduce the number of steps required to get staff enrolled and participating in training programs
-
Host a home page for each learner with functions such as Current Training, Training History, Certificates (including expiration tracking) and ‘search’ for training options
-
Track individual development to assist the business to better manage talent and succession planning across all roles
-
Automatically maintain staff training records at all levels - individual/department or branch/division/corporate
-
Record who hasn’t has done training
-
Automatically send Manager Report Emails containing the reports above
-
Help managers to create and track individual development plans for staff
-
Provide staff with a quick and simple training registration process
-
Provide approval steps (one or many) behind the enrolment process
-
Quickly retrieve training histories for both the manager and the individual
The Solution
The simplest and most cost effective solution for IMB was to buy an off-the-shelf Learning Management System (LMS) with functionality to later become (if required) an online learning system.
After a period of evaluation, IMB selected Enterprise Knowledge Platform (EKP) from Global Vision and NetDimensions as the best system to deliver all their business requirements.
The Benefits
IMB has found it is very hard to place a $ value on the benefits that the new LMS will provide. However in the first 12 months of implementation the company expects to see the following benefits:
Value of reduced red tape
Reducing the number of steps involved in getting a staff member onto a training program.
Value of improved management of internal talent
Developing and retaining the people IMB needs now and in the future to enable the continued growth and success of the business.
Value of improved staff morale
Giving staff the ability to manage their own learning paths and activities. The impact of this will be easily measured through improved results in the career development section of IMB’s Annual Staff Survey.
