TAFE NSW

TAFE NSW have commissioned Global Vision to create a wide range of online courses, CDs and learning tools such as a tool for recognition of prior learning (RPL). TAFE NSW have set about changing the way that traditional RPL is carried out. In order to engage the workforce, a reclassification of curriculum in work related terms has been created. This is a move from Competency units and Performance criteria toward day-to-day Tasks and Skills utilized on the shop floor.

Only this way can the RPL information be most effectively gathered yet once captured be measurable in traditional curriculum terms.

Global Vision created a tool which runs on a computer and guides the applicant through the process of provision and collection of evidence. This can be completed at work or at home or on any computer. This activity replaces the time consuming aspect of an Assessor’s role in challenging and collecting the information.

The applicants answer questions, do skill based online tests and list paper evidence to collect and bring along to the assessment review session. The Assessor can now use the assembled information as a guide to the review. The paper report contains Summary and GAP Analysis of the applicants training, which the Assessor can use to efficiently complete the review.

The applicant can download the RPL tool initially to run on a computer of their choice. The applicant then uses the tool to prove their competency (OR NOT) and produces a paper report to take to the Assessor. In future, the electronic ‘package’ of information can be utilized to provide an Assessor tool which can measure, and record the review.

Other learning created for TAFE NSW includes a multimedia / video based 'virtual Travel Agency' for training travel agents with simulated interactions with travelers of various kinds, and a simulated booking system and web-research simulation. A subsequent project extended this to create a version for training aspiring travel wholesalers with simulations for the systems they use.

In addition, we have created training programmes for Hairdressers and others in the responsible provision of gaming and alcohol service.
